Pinball Mods Acquired in 2019
Pinball mods are certainly a matter of personal taste. Some folks hate them, others love them so much that they have a hundred action figures glued all over the playfield! I have mixed feelings about them. I typically don't like Funkos or action figures attached everywhere. Mostly I prefer that the mod interact with the game in some way, covers a visibly intrusive component such as a switch, or blends in so seamlessly that it appears to be part of the game, such as the "Missing Mountain" mod for White Water that I have mentioned in a previous post.
With that in mind, here are the mods I acquired in 2019 for games in my collection...
It was a busy (and costly) year for me to add mods. I'm looking into making my own mods for some other games in the collection...if I can somehow find the time!
With that in mind, here are the mods I acquired in 2019 for games in my collection...
The Munsters Sewer Pipe (Mezel Mods)
I like this one because it takes a 2-D image at the back of the game and gives it 3-D dimension. It really looks like it is supposed to be there. I'm going to modify this mod even further by replacing the 2-D slime decal with some sculpted 3-D green ooze.
The Munsters 1313 Mockingbird Lane Street Light (Mezel Mods)
The street light is affordable and lights up. It is also thematically correct to the machine since the ball launch area is "1313 Deadend Drive".
The Munsters Staircase Railing (Mezel Mods)
The staircase railing has some fantastic detail and really gives depth to the left ramp to really make it look like a staircase.
The Munsters Flashing Drag Light (Mezel Mods)
This interactive mod flashes from top to bottom during a shot to the Dragula area and the resulting sequence.
White Water Sasquatch Signal (Pinside)
A great interactive mod by Pinsider zene10, which shines a spotlight to illuminate the notoriously dark Bigfoot area. It improves on a previously similar mod by illuminating Bigfoot with a red light to simulate fire during the Hot Foot mode.
Scared Stiff Dancing Boogie Men (Pinside)
The dancing boogie men feature is something that's been missing from my Scared Stiff forever. It's great to have an original feature, which was pulled due to cost cutting, back in the game to go with the lighted Deadheads, bony flippers, and the eyeball shooter knob. The DIY instructions looked a bit intimidating so I bought the completed kit from Pinsider Morpheus. (photo from pinrepair.com)
Creature from the Black Lagoon MikeD Hologram mod v2.0 (PinballMikeD)
With my Creature nearing completion of a major overhaul, I wanted to upgrade my MikeD hologram mod from v1 to v2 so that I could edit and load my own videos.
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein PinSound+ Board (PinSound)
On Cyber Monday I pulled the trigger on a PinSound+ board for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I had heard the amazing user mix by Hazzard and it dramatically improves the game's sound with more (higher quality) orchestral music and callouts from the movie. Not only was the board on sale, but a free PinSound+ Headphone Station was included, and shipping was free! One of the best purchases I made all year.
Rocky and Bullwinkle Nell Motor Upgrade (Pinside)
Pinsider Scottacus developed this robust new motor control for the Nell log mechanism, which is prone to failure. Though my old motor has been working, it can be touchy and intermittent at times. I'm going to pull it in favor of this new, more consistent mod.
Creature from the Black Lagoon Reed Switch (Pinside)
Pinsider Sonic built this cool reed switch for Creature from the Black Lagoon. It is magnetic and replaces the old mechanical switch in the Whirlpool bowl, which provided limited scoring as the ball circled the whirlpool before draining into the right inline. The reed switch captures each ball revolution around the whirlpool and is much more exciting to watch as the ball circles due to the enhanced scoring.
Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle Interactive RGB LED Hand Painted Crypt
This is the first of multiple Alice Cooper mods that I purchased from Pinsider Medisinyl. I opted for the version that is tied in to the color-changing of the backbox speakers.
Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle 36 LED Fire/Volcano Mod
Another awesome Alice Cooper mod by Medisinyl that uses 36 LEDs that flash in a sequence to give an animated lava-like effect within the volcano.
Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle Frankenstein's Lab Mod
Yet another awesome Alice Cooper mod by Medisinyl, which resembles a laboratory. LEDs simulate working laboratory equipment. It is, of course, strategically placed behind the Frankenstein ball lock mechanism/toy.
Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle Arch/Tunnel
The final Alice Cooper mod by Medisinyl that I purchased, which expands the dimensional appearance of the castle. It was a busy (and costly) year for me to add mods. I'm looking into making my own mods for some other games in the collection...if I can somehow find the time!
